My father had a Triumph motorbike in the 1950s. I used to love seeing him ride it and clean it when I was small. The logo has always been special for me, as for many Brits.

Three years ago I met representatives of the company at a lunch for businesses in my home city of Nottingham (quite close to Hinckley, where Triumph has its base). They told me they had tried a partnership in Brazil but it had not worked out but were thinking of trying again. They did try again. They now have a factory in Manaus, which our Consul-General in Sao Paulo has visited.

I invited them to display their wonderful machines at the Queen’s Birthday Party on 18 June. I then went to see their showroom in Brasilia. I loved the models on display – here am I astride a Bonneville!

They are selling well above their target numbers, about to open their seventh outlet and with more planned and more models to be offered. It’s great to see the Triumph logo in Brazil!
